1. Customize Content

This doesn’t mean just doing anything you want. When it comes to customizing content, you don’t want to add anything to a course that suits your fancy. This isn’t the time to add a 2007 PowerPoint transition type of creativity to your content. Instead, there are three things you’ll want to focus on when tailoring content for your own purposes and for your employees:

  1. Company branding
  2. Learning goals

You’ll want your content to be consistent with your company branding, both in voice and visuals. This is especially true with any sort of PR, marketing, sales, or communications training that will have to do with company messaging. 

When creating the content of your, well, content, you’ll need to keep in mind what the goal of the training is. What is it you need your employees to know? Why do your employees need to know it? Is it management training for an employee you want to promote? Is it onboarding training everyone needs to take when they start at your company?

But you’re going to have to balance those goals with different types of learning. Not everyone learns best the same way, and the more ways someone interacts with content, the better they understand it. But that’s not all you can do. If you have more than one employee doing training, encourage discussion among them as well. You can do this with forums, leaderboards, breakout groups in video conferences and webinars, chats, etc. A professor at Harvard realized his students understood his content much better when he had his students interact with each other about it. 

The final interaction to encourage is between the employees and the instructors (which may be you). You can do this by ensuring there is direct contact between the two parties, using video conferences, webinars, and virtual classrooms. This allows your employees to have any questions that they have to be answered directly. It also allows face-to-face interaction, which the lack thereof can be considered a disadvantage of online learning, so it’s a good idea to eliminate that issue.

3. Keep Track of Employees’ Progress

With interactive online training software like LMSs, you’re able to track your employees’ learning progress, and it’s important you take advantage of this feature.
